Women's Football Panel

Women’s football is increasingly high-profile, with more participants, fully professional leagues, higher standards, mainstream TV coverage and bigger crowds – a recent Champions League semi-final match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg women saw over 91,000 spectators fill the Nou Camp stadium. Locally, Brighton & Hove Albion are firmly established in the Women’s Super League and have recently unveiled a strategy that aims to make them a top four club within two years. Equal pay pioneers Lewes FC play just one tier below, in the Women’s Championship.

In July the women’s European Championship is being held in England, with three matches (at least one, maybe two, featuring the England team) being played in Brighton at the Amex. Brighton Museum is putting on a big exhibition on women’s football, called ‘Goal Power’, to celebrate the tournament, and its curator will be on our Women’s Football Panel along with key managers of women’s and girls’ football from our two top clubs.

Together with a couple of well-informed sports journalists they’ll be talking about how far the women’s game has progressed in the past few years and where it might go in the future. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions about the game in general and the prospects for our local teams. Let’s warm up for the women’s Euros with a lively discussion!
