Wanted: volunteer(s) to help with our mailing lists (Mailchimp) and website (WordPress)
Exeter Street Hall is a community-owned and volunteer-run hall in the Prestonville area of Brighton, just north of Seven Dials. We hire out the hall to the usual range of groups and classes (exercise, dance, well-being, music, art, etc.) and at discount rates to groups with a social purpose (e.g. help for migrants/refugees, the bereaved, care leavers and children with disabilities). We host community groups (art class, seniors’ tea club, toddlers’ play group, etc.) and a regular ‘Repair Cafe’ and also put on our own events, for fundraising or just for fun.
We need one or more people who can help to manage our mailing lists and update our website.
We send out a bi-monthly Community Bulletin to subscribers (put together by our Hall Manager) and occasional newsletters and information for our Community Benefit Society’s members (put together by the Society’s Secretary). We need someone who can format these communications for Mailchimp and then send them out. This would typically take 1-2 hours for each issue. You don’t have to be a Mailchimp wizard from the word go – we can show you how it works.
Our website uses WordPress and we have a couple of people who update various parts of it. We need someone willing to manage our What’s On (events & classes) calendar, using WordPress calendar and ticketing plug-ins. If you would also like to design graphics for events, or do something even more ambitious and give our site a design makeover, that would be great, but at the moment our main need is for someone to move the calendar from one plug-in to another and then keep it in shape. We have lots of sessions repeated each week, so this would not involve a lot of work once everything’s set up. As Covid precautions ease we are once again putting on larger events every couple of months and we’ll need website help with those (publicity & ticketing). Again, we can show you how things work so you don’t have to know how to do everything in advance.
If you’re interested, take a look round our website, where you can see the newsletters we send out, our What’s On calendar and in general what we do. It’s at: https://exeterstreethall.org. If you would like to chat about what’s involved, send an email to our Hall Manager, [email protected], and we’ll fix something up.
